I was gonna write this in the third person, like all the pros do, but actually, this isn't that serious, so let me just tell you about how I ended up writing this bio.
I'm Jomile [yo-mi-leh] and I was born in Lithuania (explains pronunciation), a small country in the Baltic region of Europe. I fell in love with photography at the age of 16 when I took charge of the family camera to document our vacations. Ever since, I’ve been exploring various dimensions within the medium. During my BA in New Media Art studies at Vytautas Magnus University, I became fascinated with handwriting as an extension of one's identity, but I wasn't sure what to do with it yet. When the world hit pause in the Covid-19 pandemic, I enrolled in an MA in Fashion Photography course at London College of Fashion, UAL, hoping to find what truly lights my fire. I can’t pinpoint that as the moment I became interested in body image - feels like that’s always been a thing for me, but growing up in a country that has been culturally oppressed for so long made me hesitant talking about something that wasn't really discussed. However, living in London during my young adult years helped me open up and feel empowered to explore my own relationship to my body, which later became a wider conversation with other women in my Under Her Skin project.
I'm passionate about exploring the notions of self, beauty, individual uniqueness, confidence and identity.
I'm currently based between London and Lithuania.
